Delta Gymnastics - Leadership Academy

We would like to introduce you to our first Leadership Academy coach, Lacey Davies and our Leadership Academy Captain, Joe Gray.

Over the past month Lacey and Joe have been working through the structure of the program to understand how it works and begin Lacey's learning pathway.

This is an exciting development for Delta as Lacey and Joe are leading the way for our future coaches.

Over the next few months we will update you on Lacey's progress and explain how your gymnast can get involved.

We would like to start by introducing Joe, to explain about his gymnastics and coaching background and to explain how the Leadership Academy will bring opportunities to our team.

My name is Joe and I have been involved with gymnastics for 11 years with Jess and Claire being my coaches since I was 7. I have competed regionally in both Mens Artistic and Acrobatic Gymnastics and was the Gloucestershire County Two Piece Champion in 2018. Although I love competing, my favourite part of gymnastics is display gymnastics. I have done display gymnastics for 10 years and my first London Festival of Gymnastics was in 2015!! I love display gymnastics as it combines my other passion for dance and the performing arts. In 2019, I started training and competing Acrobatic Gymnastics as it combined my favourite parts of display gymnastics with the ability to compete, in 2021 I went on to complete my Level 1 Acrobatic Gymnastics Coaching Qualification.

The My Academy programme by British Gymnastics is an amazing programme that allows the club to help train up aspiring coaches from the ages of 11-17. The academy focuses on expanding gymnasts knowledge of the sport beyond the gym itself and helps the academy members to understand different roles and responsibilities of the members in the club through five different sections that need to be completed . At Delta, I am the Academy Captain meaning that I run the academy and work with the My Academy members on completing the different section and Jess is my mentor, helping me to run the Academy. At the moment, one of our squad members and young coach, Lacey, is the only member of the academy whilst we figure out the best way to run the academy and sport any teething issues. However, we are really excited to start having more academy members and to start growing the academy at Delta!!
